The Art of Noticing

There is a quiet difference between looking and noticing.

We look at sunsets, but notice the way the evening light settles across the kitchen table.

We look at gardens, but notice the first bloom we have been waiting weeks to see.

We look at our children and grandchildren, but notice the way a tiny hand instinctively reaches for ours.

Life has a way of becoming ordinary—not because it lacks beauty, but because familiarity can dull our attention.

The art of noticing is the quiet practice of waking up to the life God has already placed before us. It is recognizing that our lives are not waiting to begin after the next promotion, the next relationship, the next vacation, or the next season. They are unfolding now, in the sacred rhythm of everyday moments.

I believe God fills ordinary days with extraordinary gifts.

🌿A robin singing before the house awakens.

🌿The fragrance of basil brushed by your fingertips.

🌿Coffee that warms your hands before it warms your soul.

🌿A well-worn Bible opened to a page you've read a hundred times, only to discover

something your heart somehow missed before.

Perhaps gratitude is less about trying harder to be thankful and more about learning to pay attention.

Perhaps joy has never been waiting somewhere else. Perhaps it has been quietly waiting for us to notice it here.

The art of noticing is simply choosing not to hurry past the gifts God has placed along today's path.

And perhaps that is the greatest surprise of all. What we once called ordinary was never ordinary at all. It was simply a gift we had not yet learned to notice.

"He has made everything beautiful in its time." Ecclesiastes 3:11
